● Сравнительная степень прилагательных (Comparative): 1. Короткие прилагательные (1–2 слога): прилагательное + -er (+ than), например, small — smaller, fast — faster. 2. Длинные прилагательные (3 и более слогов): more + прилагательное (+ than), например, expensive — more expensive, beautiful — more beautiful.

● Превосходная степень прилагательных (Superlative): 1. Короткие прилагательные (1–2 слога): the + прилагательное + -est, например, small — the smallest, fast — the fastest. 2. Длинные прилагательные (3 и более слогов): the most + прилагательное, например, expensive — the most expensive, beautiful — the most beautiful.

● Исключения: good — better — the best bad — worse — the worst far — farther — the farthest (о расстоянии, дистанции) far — further — the furthest («дальше» в переносном значении) old — elder — the eldest (о членах семьи) old — older — the oldest (о возрасте)

Стоит также запомнить, что 1. если короткое прилагательное оканчивается на букву -y, она меняется на -i + окончание -er or -est: happy — happier — the happiest; 2. если прилагательное заканчивается на согласную + гласную + согласную, последняя согласная удваивается: big — bigger — the biggest.
