Read the text and choose “True”, “False” or “Not Stated”. William Shakespeare was a famous playwright and poet who lived in England a long time ago. He was born in a small town called Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. He had a big family. His wife was Anne Hathaway and they had three children.

William loved to write stories and poems, and he wrote many famous plays, like “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hamlet”. He also wrote beautiful poems, like “Sonnet 18”.

Shakespeare’s plays are still performed all over the world today. They tell stories about love, friendship, adventure, and even ghosts! People love his words because they are so clever and funny. Even though he lived long ago, we still learn about life and love from his stories.

Shakespeare wrote his plays in a special theatre called The Globe. Even though Shakespeare didn’t have a fancy education, he had a basic education and was mostly self-taught as he was a very smart and talented writer.

Shakespeare was not just a master playwright, but also a master wordsmith. Did you know that he invented over 1,700 words and phrases that we still use today? Some examples include “eyeball”, “swagger”, “lonely”, “bedroom”, “majestic”, “break the ice”, “heart of gold”, “wild-goose chase”, and “be in a pickle”. His unique way of playing with language and creating new words has had a strong impact on the English language.

William Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616. While the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in mystery, we know he died at the age of 52 in his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. The date of his death is significant because it also happens to be his birthday, although this is likely a coincidence. Regardless, April 23rd has become deeply intertwined with Shakespeare’s legacy, and is celebrated annually as Shakespeare Day.
